The 16th tournament was traditionally held on the indoor hard courts in the Olympic Stadium Moscow from October 10—16 2005.

For the first time in history of the Kremlin Cup three Russian tennis players at once achieved semi-finals. Igor Kunitsyn lost to Nicolas Kiefer, but Igor Andreev outplayed Dmitry Tursunov in the long exacting fight. All was decided in the third set — 5:7 7:5 6:2. The final was purely dramatic and ended with the win of Andreev — 5:7 7:6 6:2. Andreev became the fourth winner of the tournament from Russia.

French player Mary Pierce in the women's finals performed almost without mistakes and left zero chances to Francesca Schiavone from Italy — 6:4 6:3. Mary repeated her six years old success in Moscow. Francesca lost her fourth final of the WTA tournament out of four in her career.

Duet of Belarus player Max Mirnyi and Russian Mikhail Youzhny easily beat Russian duet Igor Andreev and Nikolay Davydenko – 6:1 6:1. Mirnyi is a record holder in number of times winning the doubles tournament Kremlin Cup by Bank of Moscow — he won it four times.

In the women's doubles tournament the Australian Samantha Stosur and the American Lisa Raymond prove stronger than Australian player Rennae Stubbs and Cara Black from Zimbabwe — 6:2 6:4. It’s the 49th title four Lisa Raymond.
